Bernard

Created Friday 21 March 2014

Bernard is an understandably common name in the Beaulieu documents, turning up in Beaulieu:

This is somewhat tough to break up. The ecclesiastics, the abbot and the monk who becomes bishop, can be distinguished, and I have done, but the earlier ones are a mess. It doesn't seem safe to identify any together except those with a Puy d'Arnac focus, which is presumably the guy who (briefly?) serves as vicar, the two appearances with an Espagnac one, those with a le Vert focus, and the vicecomital scion, though I suspect that the first two are really the same person as the onetime vicar and also the same as the donor in Casillac and the last probably lies behind more of these appearances than we can be certain about. The three at Castelnau are probably someone else, but it could just be that they're all the same man at the abbey, as usual.
