Beaulieu CLXXI

Created Friday 21 March 2014

Dec. 877, an oblation of a boy called Arubert by his father Arnebert and mother Manguis to St-Pierre de Beaulieu. He comes along with the church of St-Projet in Espagnac and a vine in Blandine. The church comes with a bacallaria. This is at least how Deloche read the document, but I'm not sure that the boy is doing anything more than consenting! Certainly there is no reference to him as a sacrifice or any hint that he should become a monk. The usufruct of the properties are retained for Arnebert's life. Deloche also reads this charter's "first year Emperor Charles was dead" as being 877 for Charles the Bald but I think that the clear heir to Charles the Bald makes a dating by Charles the Fat, placing this in 888, much more likely.
