Beaulieu XLIX

Created Wednesday 16 April 2014

c. 930, a donation to St-Martin de Tulle and St-Pierre de Beaulieu prompted from Adhémar by the imminent end of the world. He gives Tulle everything he holds in their bailiwick, which turns out to be:

To Beaulieu he gives:
He also entrusts a homestead at Mairiniac and Peyrat with its churches, excepting 'Vernias' which belongs to St-Pierre de Marcillac, and properties unspecified at Mespoulet and le Chassin to his son Bernard for his life, after which the Mairiniac and Peyrat properties will go to Tulle and the others to Marcillac and Saint-Sauveur de Figeac respectively. Everything else, his almsmen are to sell for his soul, his parents' souls and Gauzla's, this last clause only making it clear that we are here looking at a will, not a donation. Presumably all three of the houses got copies of this document, or else it's rather strange that we have it through Beaulieu rather than through Tulle (though the editors there stuck it in anyway, from this text). Deloche identifies the donor as a viscount of Echelles, but this is not said in the text.
