Beaulieu CLII

Created Wednesday 09 April 2014

Aug. 891, a donation by Avidus to St-Pierre de Beaulieu, for the first time headed up by an abbot who is not the venerable Gairulf (Rainulf) of a demesne villa at Laubat, at le Bouis with a baccalaria and ten manses, all of which can be described in one boundary clause (admittedly possibly because that clause is rivers on three sides and a public road, as per, on the fourth, thouigh it is said to run through landmarks). The land came to Avidus from his uncle Guldiric, but he uses the donation to benefit not just his and his uncle's souls but also those of his father Avidus, his mother Ingelborgis and his brother Antoine's (this man also leading the witnesses). At the last minute of the dispositio, he adds a wood called 'Mollis Caparia' whose exact location is not specified but which bounds on land of St-Pierre's already, suggesting that we may be quite close to the abbey here.
