Godfrid was the son of Count Raoul of Turenne and his wife Aiga, and thus brother of Archbishop Raoul of Bourges and Abbess Immena of Sarrazac. He is first seen as a witness to one of Raoul's purchases in 841 (Beaulieu XX), as count consenting to a donation by his mother in 844 (Beaulieu XXXIV); by 865 he had married one Gerberga and they had a son capable of holding property, also called Godfrid (Beaulieu CLXXXVI); the next year he made his will and another son, Raoul, appears (Beaulieu III). Subsequent mentions are all post mortem, the first being a donation by yet another son, Gauzfrid, in 878 (Beaulieu XLVI). The senior Godfrid's full list of appearances is Beaulieu XX, XXXIV, XVIII, XIX, I, CLXXXVI, III, CLXIX & XII.
