Beaulieu XLVI

Created Friday 21 March 2014

Jul. 878, a donation of the church of St-Quirce de Belmont-près-Bretenoux, which comes with seven manses of which three are empty, and properties at Bian, Laroque, Monteil, Tregazou, Tillet and Souillol as well as nine families of slaves to St-Pierre de Beaulieu by Gauzfrid, son of the late Count Godfrid of Turenne, who seems to be concerned about the approach of the end of the world as that family's scribes usually do; his mother Gerberga and brother Godfrid consent. The dating is by the death of Emperor Charles, which is odd but here seems more likely to be early than late given the lifespans of the family members involved otherwise. Why isn't Louis the Stammerer recognised here?
