Archambald of Castelnau
Created Saturday 15 March 2014
A man named Archambald appears in a sequence of early-ish Beaulieu documents as follows:
It seems reasonable in this to see a man of relative importance attending transactions at the abbey, developing a local importance especially in Castelnau and then bequeathing lands elsewhere to the monastery to keep a family holding in being for his brother and his brother's children, but the template that makes one think this is Deloche's connection of this name to the castellans and eventual viscounts of Castelnau. I'm not saying he's wrong but the documents never say more about this man's importance than what is summarised here, and there's certainly no obvious way to connect him with the other person of this name in these documents, whose focus is a century later in Puy d'Arnac.
