Turenne

Created Friday 07 March 2014

Turenne was a pagus within or adjoining the county of the Limousin, occasionally with its own counts. There was a castle at its centre which carried the same name (unsurprisingly given what that name is). It occurs in the following charters:
Beaulieu XXXIII, I, XXII, CXLV, LXV, LXVI and others.
Its invocation is almost always a variant: properties that would otherwise be reckoned in either of the Limousin or occasionally (LXV) Quercy are grouped here, and what it shows other than that several views exist and that the old comital family may still have a sphere of inflluence I'm not sure.
