Beaulieu XXVIII

943x8 (though dated by Baluze to 840), a donation to St-Pierre de Beaulieu by Gauzbert and his wife Ricburgis of quite a lot of property, as follows:

  1. the demesne church of St-Denis de Lauzac with an exarta (clearance?), a capmansio with vine, lands and threshing-floor and all its slaves;
  2. the villa of Saint-Sost with everything they own there except the hamlet of Colonzat, but including a lake with its tolls, fisheries, a wood, mills and a vine;
  3. villa of Sannat and 'Naziano' with all appurtenances including mills;
  4. villa of la Vialette with vines, demesne meadows, manses and reclamations ('fraustes'); and
  5. a vine in Coursault, and then an afterthought,
  6. a capmansio in Lauzac held by Odolric the dog-handler (canarius).
These folks are clearly developers, and we learn a bit more about them from the soul provisions, which make it clear that Gauzbert is son of Robert and brother of Boso, Adhémar, Odolric and Robert, and uncle of Boso and Jean, all of whom are named as soul beneficiaries and the elder Boso and Jean of whom witness, and which is as much to say that he is vicecomital family, and indeed Deloche entitles him viscount in the rubric though this is not said in the text itself. Only the first five properties seem to be made as part of that family provision, and of these Gauzbert retains usufruct and investiture while he lives, without mention of a cens. If he should predecease Ricburgis, St-Denis and the Lauzac properties go to Beaulieu and she retains usufruct of the rest; if she dies first, however, Coursault goes to Beaulieu and Gauzbert holds onto the rest, giving in charity (not in cens) twenty solidi a year meanwhile. There is no dating clause, and the date must be placed by the abbot and donors in combination. Boso, unlike the donor, actually does sign as viscount.
