Beaulieu XXI

Created Wednesday 12 March 2014

Jul. 860, a donation of the village of Billac to St-Pierre de Beaulieu by Archbishop Raoul of Bourges, which is interesting because it includes the church of St-Martin already given there by his sister-in-law Rotruda two months before in Beaulieu XIX & CLXXX! It refers not to this transaction, but to Beaulieu XX whence he got most of the rest of it. Since he bought it there, Rotruda's possession would seem to have been concessionary. She seems now to be buried at Beaulieu, however, so perhaps Raoul's tenure needs restating. Dating of the document is by King Charles the Younger, and unusually it gives a place of action, which is Bourges: is Archbishop Raoul at court?
