St Totteringham's Day was the day when Arsenal fans celebrate the fact that Tottenham can no longer catch Arsenal in the League. It is a movable feast, but usually falls in March, April or May. It was the day to collect on bets made by over-optimistic Spurs fans in the close season who think that "this is the year".

Nine point gap with seven to go...

It has reached that time when it is worth taking a quick look ahead to see when St Totteringham's might fall this year.

    The situation is...
    GamesPointsGDPoints behind(games left)(max points)
    Arsenal3163+30
    Spurs3154+597(75)

This means Arsenal need 13 points to finish above Spurs: 4 wins and a draw out of the last seven games. Alternatively Spurs need to drop points which might speed things up.

    Sun Apr 18FA Cup Semi-Final
    Sun Apr 19Newcastle Utd (a)
    Sat Apr 25Southampton (a)
    Sun Apr 26Chelsea (h)
    Sat May 2Hull City(a) Manchester City (h)
    Sat May 9Swansea (h) Stoke City (a)
Sat May 16Manchester Utd (a) Hull City (h)
    Wed 20 MaySunderland (h)
Sun May 24West Bromwich Albion (h) Everton (a)

A massively optimistic look at the fixtures could see St Totteringham's fall on April 26: Arsenal beat Burnley, while Spurs lose three in a row would leave us needing just a point from Chelsea.

More realistic optimism would say Spurs beat Villa or get points against Newcastle. In that case we'd need to go into May.

Being realistic: I can't see Arsenal not winning four of the games we have: Burnley, Hull, Swansea, Sunderland and WBA all look winnable. The fact we have one slip allowed helps. Chelsea and Manchester Utd are less likely wins: but it isn't impossible to win one or both.

In addition Spurs face Man City in a match that looks tough. Southampton looks a key match in the chase for Europa league football. They've also looked brittle in recent weeks: Newcastle and Villa will hope to get something.

So in summary I think we can start to be confident of making it twenty years in a row, but we will probably be looking at a May St Totteringham this year.
