Abbot Bernard II of Beaulieu

Created Friday 21 March 2014

Abbot Bernard II of Beaulieu appears only twice, once with his predecessor Gerald in Beaulieu LXXXV (984x5) and then alone in Beaulieu CXXVIII (988x93). He was by any sensible measure the twelfth abbot of Beaulieu, being precded either by Gerald I or by his coadjutor Gerbert, but the succession then becomes unclear, as a monk Bernard who seems to be a client of the Bishop of Cahors of the same name and uncle of the eventual Abbot Bernard III, is more or less running things but is not called abbot. The next named abbot is Hugues, who is first seen in 1028x9.
