Dereham is the Northern terminus and headquarters of the Mid-Norfolk Railway. It's a preserved line, so doesn't really count as part of the national rail network, but they have a connection to the main line at Wymondham which is used by freight trains and railtours from time to time.
I took the opportunity to visit it on 8th June 2004, not least because it gave me an excuse to escape the dogs-on-strings-people extravaganza that is Cambridge's Strawberry Fair.
Having arrived on the train on the right, we look North towards Dereham Station building.
Looking South back along the operational MNR line towards Wymondham. On the right a coach is being refurbished by an MNR volunteer.
