My Grandfather was a station master at two Lincolnshire stations, Surfleet and Postland, but Beeching did for both lines. Reminded of these stations by a visit to Lincolnshire, I resolved to find pictures of them in books or on the web. Although in the end I managed to find pictures of both, I was stunned by how few pictures there seemed to be.
I wanted to make sure this never happened again. Whatever the fate of Britain's railway network, there should be a record of its stations, no matter how underloved or underused they may be, so I started a collection of railway stations.
Because the railways were meant for transport, and stations for getting on and off trains, you can only have collected a station if:
In particular, so many station photographs of old are spoiled by trains getting in the way of the building. I like trains, but when I'm looking at stations they get in the way, so you won't find much in the way of interesting haulage here; just bricks and mortar, ballast and metal, and some confused looking fellow passengers.
