Abbot Silvio of Solignac

Created Wednesday 12 March 2014

Silvio appears as a monk or abbot of Solignac in two documents, Beaulieu XVI (856) & I, which straightaway presents us with a problem as by Deloche's date the latter, where he is only a monk, is later than the former where he is Abbot. This is one of several things that suggests that Deloche was wrong to date Beaulieu I to 860 (6th Charles the Younger) and that it should really be dated to 846 (6th Charles the Bald), at which rate Silvio's career progression becomes more normal.
