Maghull lies on the line to Ormskirk and is one of the most well-looked after stations on Merseyrail's network, and even if you couldn't tell from the planters and the signs, perhaps you could guess from the trophy cabinet inside the ticket office:

At the south end of the station site is the level crossing:
