Rotherham Central was the first station of 2018's station collecting holiday, so of course it started to rain just as we arrived. Like Lincoln it's the only station in town but retains its "Central" moniker after rail services were centralised here. The front of the modern building which faces east:
A long view south down the platform 1 side of the station:
As well as a ramp, steps lead up to the entrance to the station, though some of them are purely decorative:
At the northern end of the station is a level access from the street and an old "Rotherham Central" sign can just be made out in the brickwork on the right:
The round area in front of us houses a cafe (closed when we visited) and beyond that a small waiting room:
Entering the station we look back towards the doors - the waiting room entrance is on the left just beyond the signs:
A ticket machine provides for when the ticket office is closed, and provides a new "promise to pay" equivalent to the old "permit to travel":
Turning 180 degrees we see the enclosed footbridge leading to platform 2, with steps (and a lift) down to platform 1 on our left:
Going down onto platform 1, we look north towards the footbridge:
The shelter of the canopy does not extend all the way along the platforms, as you can see in this shot from the southern end of platform 1:
Beyond the end of both platforms the new lower platforms for the tram-train trial (where Sheffield trams run on Network Rail infrastructure) are under construction:
Back at the north of platform 1 looking under the footbridge towards the road bridge:
Back up on the footbridge we look south at the line:
Looking north from the footbridge. The electrification is for trams, not trains!
Incidentally, this is what this all looks like from the road bridge:
Curved steps lead down from the footbridge to platform 2:
The platform 2 end of the footbridge; the steps emerge directly below the footbridge and there's the lift straight ahead:
