Ravensthorpe lies on the line east of Mirfield just beyond the point (Thornhill LNW Junction) where the line branches. Ravensthorpe is on the northern branch, which leads onwards to Dewsbury.
Approaching the station along Ravensthorpe Road just to its west, one crosses the line at the point where it diverges. Looking east from the road bridge here, the left hand branch goes to Ravensthorpe station and the right hand branch goes to Wakefield Kirkgate:
