Moorfields station is on Merseyrail's Wirral and Northern Lines and was opened to replace the old Liverpool Exchange station whose frontage can still be seen just down the road. Slightly incongruously this underground station's entrance on Moorfields itself is on the first floor; here's the front of the building:

Escalators lead down from the ticket hall to a long subway which connects to the deep level Wirral line platform and to the slightly less deep Northern Line platforms. The entrance to the Wirral Line escalators can be seen on the right:
