FWIW I think one thing which might be missing is an explicit statement
to the maintainer that you (or a specific named someone who acks it)
will take responsibility for those bits of integration going forward
(assuming you/they are willing to of course).

Similarly 964139#32 had "I'm sure someone will ..." which isn't the
same as "I will ...".

I can see why without that sort of explicit named commitment a
maintainer might not want to engage if their concern is that they don't
want that ongoing burden themselves.

I'm not saying it'll actually help in this case but I think it would
surely strengthen any case to be made to others for accepting those
kinds of patches.
