I can sort of see your point, but: firstly there are lots of Debian
packages where the mailing list is not @debian.org.  I don't think it
implies second class citizen status.

More importantly, I think it is important that we use a list where
Debian's downstreams who are working on sysvinit-related stuff will
feel welcome.

You say you don't read debian-devel, so you will have missed the nasty
things that were being said there about some of the people we are
collaborating with here.  #debian-devel is also sometimes poor.  There
is a lot of bad history which sadly is still coming out in bad
behaviour and we are trying to make a new start.

I don't think it would be kind to expect our contributors from Devuan
and elsewhere to join a Debian list, when Debian as a whole is not
able to provide a welcoming environment.  Unfortunately I do not have
confidence in the Debian listmasters willingness to address hostility.

That is why I set up a list on my own server.
