Liverpool James Street is the point where the loop underneath Liverpool was added to the line west to the Wirral, and it still has a mostly-disused platform and length of track from the old passenger link to Liverpool Central.

The track on platform 2 isn't used much because most trains go round the loop line under Liverpool, but it's still there and decorated with some odd artwork:
