Whaley Bridge languished for a long time in my to-do list of stations to write up, until it was threatened by flooding in Summer 2019 and I realised I recognised some of the photos from the news footage... Finally getting around to writing it up now, anyway.
The approach to the station is from Reservoir Road, through a cobbled car park:
The front of the station building, on the left at the top of the car park:
The entrance to the station building was closed when we visited, but it has some nice stained glass and WB hanging baskets to admire:
A long view of the frontage (with the entrance behind the red bins) shows bike racks and an ornamental lamp:
Just to the right of the photographer in the previous shot is this sign with kids' depictions of Whaley Bridge:
Opposite the station front is the Jodrell Arms inn:
To the right of the station building is the entrance to platform 1:
North of the entrance to platform 1 is an area of planters:
Looking north along the line:
From the northern end of platform 1, looking south along both platforms:
A view of the rear of the station building from platform 2 opposite:
The windows are frosted with the arms of the Stockport and Whaley Bridge Railway Company (incorporated 1854, en dieu est ma foy):
Under the canopy of the station building on platform 1 is a proper clock:
The platform side entrance to the ticket office:
South of the station building on platform 1 looking at the side of the building and the canopy:
Up on the footbridge to get to platform 2, we look south:
North from the same point:
Down on platform 2 at the end of the footbridge, looking north. There's a Harrington hump by the shelter and some planters disguising the rather ugly wooden building beyond:
The smaller waiting room building on platform 2:
The rear of the platform 2 building:
