### History
Johannes was born in 1240 in Bernice in north Germany as the first child of a member of the minor nobility. His father Wilhelm's dalliance with the siren Kallan then dwelling in the river Trave nearby produced an unexpected result: Johannes. Kallan was uninterested with the child, leaving him to be found on his father's doorstep one morning. His sister Agathe, born three years later to Wilhelm and his wife Cristina, nonetheless also bore the marks of her father's affair.
-Agathe showed signs that she might be Gifted from an early age; this was noticed by Otto of house Guernicus on his travels in the area. When Johannes' Gift awoke, there was some confusion about which of the children was responsible for the unusual events; after this was resolved, Otto arranged to take both of them to Oculus Septentrionalis with him, in the hopes that Agathe would also prove Gifted.

Because of this, although Johannes' relationship with his father is slightly strained, he receives a stipend from him to care for his sister.
