Thanks for the heads up!
I tend to think initscripts are better owned by distributions rather
than upstreams, for various reasons.
I propose a fresh initscript for uuid - would be grateful if you
could consider including it to replace the upstream one:

Is it the generation of content in the debian directory that caused the
unwanted complications? I wonder if this solution avoids that?
