Weight loss/diet management

Like many sedentary workers, I put on weight if I'm not careful. The Hackers' Diet is a very useful engineering approach to the problem, complete with downloadable computer tools for managing your weight. It's worked very well for me, when I've stuck to it, although it does require a certain obsessive approach to weighing and measuring.

Weight Loss Resources has a comprehensive online database of foods, originally for the UK and now I believe the USA too. It's not free, but provides an online food and exercise diary, a recommended calorie intake based on your goals and activity level, and best of all lets you add new foods to the database so you can keep your diary going so long as you have the nutritional information for what you're eating. I use it in conjunction with the Hackers' Diet tools for pure calorie-counting, but it has a lot more besides, and may suit people for whom the Hackers' Diet is just too clinical.
