On the Great Eastern Main Line between Norwich and Ipswich, Stowmarket was probably the most architecturally extravagant station I'd visited to date. Built in 1846 and designed by Frederick Barnes, it's the octagonal towers at each end of the station building that really caught my eye:

The symmetrical structure is also visible in this view of Platform 2 from the footbridge:

An Inter-City service means long trains, and long trains mean long platforms. This is Platform 2 looking towards the station buildings, and a small shelter on Platform 1; presumably they put the new shelter there for First Class passengers whose carriage is at the front of the train...
