Kirkby Stephen was the first station of a day spent on the Settle and Carlisle line, with some good cycling between stations along the way. Like many stations on the northern section of the line it's on an embankment with quite a steep incline to reach the platforms. This is the rise up to platform 1 for southbound trains; the carpark is along the road ahead and steps lead up on the right:

The road reaches the car park a little further on:
Between the station building and the footbridge a small gate leads on to platform 1:

Plaques mark the station's restoration and opening by the Prince of Wales:
Like most of the stations along the line, Kirkby Stephen has a covered waiting room with plenty to read. Inside the waiting room in the main station building:
Inside the waiting room is the Midland Railway Room, or so it says on the glass above the door:
Also in the waiting room is this plaque marking the EU funding of the station restoration project:
The footbridge links the two platforms:
The footbridge gives a good view of the station. Platform 1 and the station building are on the right as we look north:
Looking south from the footbridge we can see a siding and the signalbox:

Over on platform 2 there is only a small modern shelter building:

All the lamps at the station have the station name in the lights:
At the northern end of platform 2 a steep footpath leads down to the road which goes under the line:
