Halewood station is on the Merseyrail "City Line", which seems to be code for the bits of Merseyrail that aren't electrified and are operated by Northern Rail. It's a modern station, with a building at street level and a couple of platforms on an embankment. The station building at street level:
A ramp and steps lead up from street level to platform 1. The steps have lines from a poem written on them. Some lines have disappeared but it's enough that Google will find the rest of the poem!

Getting to the other platform involves coming back down to street level to see a second parapet where more trackbed used to run:
