At first glance Bolton station isn't promising; the entrance on Trinity Street is modern, dating from the 1980s. However, the pillars supporting the entrance canopy are clearly retained from an earlier building:
More promisingly, the clock tower from the old station building was dismantled and reconstructed so it's now here:

The footbridge which crosses the line from the station building:
It's again a bit unpromising when the station building dumps you below the road bridge, here on platform 1:
Further down platform 1 looking north at the new cycle hub:
Looking south along platform 1, where there's a curious mixture of old iron columns and modern glass-and-steel waiting rooms:
But actually the modern bits are added to the superb original platform buildings, as you can see with this waiting room between platform 1 and platform 3 on the other side:
Various of the doorways and windows have frosted glass labels in them. This is the Gentlemen's 1st Class Waiting Room door:
Windows include the Station Master's Office:

Set in a little from platform 1 is the bay platform 2:

From platform 3 we can look across at platform 4:
Back at the other end of platforms 1 and 3 is this mysterious pyramid:

At the end of the station building, with fences and bollards separating us from the operational part of the station; this is actually the car park!
