Electrification:
There are several electrified sections of the New Zealand rail network, isolated from one another:
- North Island Main Trunk Line, Hamilton - Palmerston North: 25kV 50Hz AC overhead
- Wellington suburban system: 1500V DC overhead
- Midland Line (Christchurch - Greymouth, South Island), Arthur's Pass - Otira: formerly 1500V DC overhead; electrification now abandoned
