In the printed info accompanying the invitations, I meant a trip to
the Carlton on Sunday the 9th not the 10th.
Itinerary
Note that all times are approximate and are subject to change.
12.00 pm - wedding ceremony, Senate Room
12.30 pm - drinks reception and photos, bar and foyer
1.30 pm - wedding breakfast, Senate Room
2.30 pm - speeches, Senate Room
3.00 pm - gossip, drinking, silly games, more photos, etc.
5.00 pm - cake cutting, Senate Room
6.30 pm - finger buffet, Senate Room
Venue
The Royal Cambridge Hotel (http://www.theroyalcambridgehotel.com)
is located in the southwest corner of the city centre, at the junction
between Trumpington Street and Fen Causeway (which was built by German
prisoners of war, but seems quite safe), and next to the Department of Engineering. The main
entrance is on Fen Causeway, plus there are some pedestrian entrances
on Trumpington Street.
The ceremony and meal will take place in the Senate Room, which is
to the right as you enter the main entrance. But it's a small hotel,
so it will be kind of obvious. Drinks and photographs will take place
in the foyer/bar and around the main entrance. Toilets are located on
the lower level (down the spiral staircase in the foyer).
Please be prompt and remember to turn off your mobile phone. Note that
photography is not permitted during the ceremony. Confetti will be provided.
Parking
Car parking at the hotel is for the priority of resident guests. There
may be some spaces available for a charge of ten pounds, but we don't
recommend you rely on it. The nearest public car parks are Queen Anne's
Terrace (on Gonville Place) and Lion Yard (accessible from Downing
Street).
Meals
The main meal will comprise a set starter, buffet main course, and dessert,
with wedding cake to follow later. Please let us know of any dietary
requirements we may need to accommodate.
There will also be a finger buffet in the evening. It would be useful if
you could let us know if you'll be able to stay for this.
We're also thinking of going to the Carlton Arms (http://www.thecarltonarms.co.uk)
on the afternoon of Sunday the 9th (not the 10th as stated in the
printed info that accompanied the invitations). Please let us know if
you're interested so we can warn the pub that large numbers of people
may descend on them.
Dress Code
The dress code is smart but not too formal - so there's no need for
penguin suits, ballgowns or cravats, unless you really want to wear
them!
Gifts
We've provided the web addresses for a couple of wedding lists below; let us
know if you'd like a paper copy to read. Please note that we'd rather not
receive chocolate or alcohol.
