Socks that rock [100% merino; 360yd per 128g skein]; color:
Lemongrass; 1 skein
1 set US #2/2.75mm double-point needles
1 set US #4/3.5mm double-point needles
GAUGE
28sts/ 32rows = 4" in stockinette stitch on 3.5mm needles
PATTERN NOTES
pattern is worked over three sts as follows
Round 1, knit
Round 2, k2, p1
PATTERN Cast on 60sts on 2.5mm needles. Join, being careful not to twist. Work 7 rounds of k1,p1 rib. Change to 3.5mm needles and work in pattern until whole piece measures 15cm, ending on round 2.
Heel Flap
Knit 15, turn, purl 30, turn.
Row 1: Sl1, k1 across
Row 2: purl.
Repeat these two rows another 10 times (22 rows in total.)
K20, k2 tog, turn.
p10, p2 tog, turn,
k10, k2 tog, turn.
Repeat these rows until all stitches have been worked.
Gusset
Pick up and knit 16 sts on side of heel flap, k across instep sts,
pick up and k 16 sts on other side of heel flap, k5, k2tog (72 sts).
Keeping patt as established correct over instep sts, work round two
of pattern.
next round: k to last 2 sts of needle one, k2 tog, work instep sts,
then k2 tog on last needle, and k to end. Repeat these two rows
until 60 sts remain.
keeping patt correct, work until sock measures 5cm less than desired
foot measurement, ending with round 2.
Toe
K to last two stitches on needle one, k 2 tog, k2 tog, k to last two
instep sts, k2 tog, k2tog, k to end. Work round 1 of pattern,
keeping patt correct, and knitting the k2togs.
Repeat until 8sts remain, K needle one sts onto needle three (or
four if using five needles).
FINISHING
Graft toe using kitchener or 3 needle bind off. Sew in loose ends.
