Villières

Created Friday 07 March 2014

Villières was a villa in the vicairie of Uzerche in the Limousin. It is first seen being granted to Archbishop Raoul of Bourges by King Pippin II of Aquitaine in 848, showing that it was then fiscal property (Beaulieu VII); it subsequently recurs with a church of St-Maixent in the control of St-Pierre de Beaulieu in 897 (Beaulieu XIII), that church then coming to define the settlement; it recurs thus in 927x32 (Beaulieu CVI & CXLI), whereafter we lose sight of it.
