29.8.07 Considerate drivers in Stowmarket I've said before that I find drivers elsewhere much nicer, from a cyclist's point of view, than those in Cambridge. I often ride in Stowmarket and I find the drivers there are particularly good (especially when the season means it's daylight, for some reason). This clip is a lovely example. I'm riding uphill with plenty of luggage, and managing only 20kph (12.5mph). The cars behind me sit patiently at a good distance until there's an ample gap to overtake, and then when they do they give me plenty of space - all but one go right across onto the other side of the road. The oncoming traffic is just as polite. Everyone seems to be obeying the speed limit too. You can just imagine what Cambridge drivers would make of a cyclist doing 20kph uphill in the primary position and having to *shock* wait for a few seconds. I should probably mention, to mitigate the inevitable flames, that I often pull over on this particular hill if it seems that I'm accumulating a queue or there isn't soon going to be a good opportunity for them to pass.
