1.7.07 M533 TPU pulls out without looking As I was riding along Carlton Way yesterday (towing my trailer), this car pulls out of the Carlton Arms car park, apparently oblivious to my presence. My shouts of `oi' and `look where you're going' seemed to have no effect - the driver doesn't even look round. Looking at the video I think I should probably have reduced my speed rather more aggressively, to give myself a bit more space, and generally left a bigger gap in front of me. Although I had a good view of the road situation (much better than the camera, which can't see over the car), the driver might have decided to stop or maneouvre suddenly for some reason not related to the road environment. I might then have have had to swerve or stop very abruptly, and the bike is less responsive with the trailer, of course. I should be more careful not to allow idiocy by other road users to upset me and cloud my own judgement. On the other hand, my cautious and defensive road position as I passed the pub proved very valuable. This kind of incident demonstrates why gutter cycling is a bad idea.
