29.4.07 Close passing at speed by L434 XFW Shortly after 5pm on Sunday the 29th of April I was cycling from the Imperial War Musuem at Duxford to Whittlesford railway station. As I came up the A505 towards the M11 junction, the road was a dual carriageway. Several cars and two or three motorbikes passed me without incident. I looked at my speedo which indicated 25.6kph. About halfway up the slope, one particular car passed me very close by, at speed, with mere inches to spare. I shouted `too close', and was rewarded with a one-finger rude gesture by the passenger. The car drove off up to the junction and appeared to leave on the slip road onto the Northbound M11. Looking at the video it seems that I should have taken a more assertive road position. Riding in the debris-strewn verge would not have been a good idea. ---------- 29.4.07 Reported to police At 2155 today I went to Parkside to report this incident but they were closed! I returned home and phoned the call centre. I described the incident and the operator appeared to take my complaint seriously. Initially they suggested I should go in, but they weren't able to make an appointment that would avoid me sitting around waiting for hours in the middle of the working day and they wouldn't be open out of hours. The operator asked whether I might be able to go to Sawston but I said no, as I didn't have a car. The operator offered to get a Community Support Officer to contact me, and said that they would be able to take a statement.
