Living Nightmare (1995)
You stand alone, shivering. You hear footsteps, you jump.
You don't know how you got away, but you did.
Is he still following you? Your mind replays events:
He lunged at you, you ran, he chased, you hid.
The stench of your fear roots you to the spot.
Your legs buckle; you know you cannot give up here.
The look in his eyes convinced you he wanted you dead,
You are not yet safe - to escape, you must overcome your fear.
Determination pulls you away, makes your feet move.
Silently you run, the streets unfamiliar and dark.
Breathlessly you reach your door - fear grips you once more,
You push the door open. The room appears strangely stark.
Could he have got in? Might he be hidden here?
You banish the thought, but still you peer under the bed,
Search through the wardrobes, scan the other rooms -
Nothing. You're alone with your fear, but at least you're not dead.
Still trembling, still afraid, you crawl into bed.
Familiar surroundings reassure you. You turn out the light.
Safe at last, you surrender yourself to sleep,
Your breathing growing shallower with the depth of the night.
