Train

Cambridge to Shelford takes about 7 minutes, and trains run hourly during the day and evening, and twice an hour at peak times. Look up trains on National Rail. Shelford is on the Liverpool Street line if you're coming from London.

Out of the station turn left, and head along Hinton Way. Take the third on the left into Orchard Road, and follow the road passing Birch Trees Road on the left. Then follow the final directions below.

Bike

The NCN51 along the railway from Addenbrookes to Shelford is nice and quiet and actually fairly direct, and comes out near our house. Enter Addenbrooke's from either entrance and follow Robinson Way round the back of the hospital and follow the blue signs. You'll come out on Granham's Road by the level crossing, and you want to cross over and continue along the NCN path. You can also join this route from the Busway by taking the bridge toward Addenbrookes, turning left along Francis Crick Avenue, and then joining the bike path which leads off from the Roundabout and under the Addenbrookes Road bridge.

Alternative routes are along Trumpington Road and Shelford Road, turning into left into Granham's Road immediately after you go over the railway bridge, and turning right immediately after the level crossing onto NCN51. Or out along Babraham Road past Addenbrooke's and right into Granham's Road and left immediately before the level crossing onto NCN51.

In all three cases you come out into a cul-de-sac which is part of Chaston Road. Turn left out of the cul-de-sac into Birch Trees Avenue, follow it round until you meet Orchard Road at a T-junction, turn left here. Then follow the final directions below.

Remember you can take most bikes on the train!

Bus

From Cambridge or Sawston get the Citi7, get off just after the traffic lights at the junction with Station Road. Stagecoach timetable information

From the bus stop return to the junction and turn into Station Road, once past the station continue straight on along Hinton Way. Take the third on the left into Orchard Road, and follow the road around, passing Birch Trees Road on the left. Then follow the final directions below.

Car/Taxi

If you come down Trumpington Road/Shelford Road then turn left into Station Road, which becomes Hinton Way at the level crossing and take the third on the left into Orchard Road, then follow the road passing Birch Trees Road on the left. Then follow the final directions below.

The most direct route is probably to come out past Addenbrookes along Babraham Road then continue out as far as the roundabout and turn right into Hinton Way. Orchard Road is third on the right as you come into the village. Follow the road passing Birch Trees Road on the left. Then follow the final directions below.

A taxi from the town centre costs around 12 pounds. I usually use A1 Cabco on 01223 711111.

Final Directions

Continue along Orchard Road. The road curves round to the right, passing Wheelers Court, and then becomes Macaulay Avenue. Continue along until you reach a T-junction and the sign for Macaulay Square and turn left. Follow this round to the right past the post box, and then take the next left, by the small green. Go straight on down the cul-de-sac and number 52 is at the bottom on the left. There will probably be space to park cars by the green.
