The league was closely run last year, and the final Order of Merit gives an indication of some excellent personal and society results.

Over the summer, a crack team was sent to Manorcon, the board games convention held in Birmingham. The Cambridge DipSoc all-star line-up, lead by Geoff Bache for the second year, performed well. Most importantly, we finished well ahead of Oxford in the final rankings! A full report will follow.

Articles, contributions and suggestions are always welcome for The Gunboat. Please let me know what you found clear and what was not.

The Play-off

The top seven finishers in the league are invited to the annual play-off, for the proud title of the Chetan Radia Memorial Knife. A somewhat unusual format was followed this year, involving a game of Titan rather than the expected Diplomacy. The venue was a private lounge near the Botanical Gardens.

The game began quietly, but soon became heated. After epic stuggle, traffic jams on one corner of the board, a break for food, and some rather heartless victimization, two super-powers emerged. The one-on-one showdown between them came sooner than expected, but it was fought to the death. Emily Bache emerged as triumphant. Suitably over-awed, the remaining players resigned to her overwhelming forces -- and it was over.

Whether this wins the Memorial Knife or not isn't clear, since it wasn't Diplomacy that was played -- but that may be beside the point [sic].
