Tuesday, 1st June
Tuesday, 8th June
Boston
Boston Common and the Public Garden. The rose was given to us by two of the Public Gardeners after we helped one of them find her mobile phone, which she'd dropped in the rose bed.
Wednesday, 9th June
JFK Library
Thursday, 10th June
Saugus Ironworks
The first ironworks in the USA. It was a commercial failure but
seeded the industry. The buildings are post-war reproductions.
Charter Street Burying Ground, Salem, MA
Driving north
The shots after the first are from the New Hampshire welcome centre
in Seabrook. I found it ironic that a “welcome centre”
would have so many signs telling you what you're not allowed to
do...
Old Gaol, York, ME
Portland, ME
The beer is four quarter-pints and the one at the front is Sea Dog
Brewing Company's Blue Paw, a blueberry wheat beer that is, basically,
a blueberry muffin in a glass.
Friday, 11th June
Portland Observatory, driving north, Acadia National Park.
Saturday, 12th June
Bar Harbor, ME
Augusta, ME
White Mountain National Forest
Sunday, 13th June
Driving through New Hampshire and Vermont
Dr Seuss National Memorial, Springfield, MA
Connecticut
The Connecticut State Capitol and its environs in Hartford.
Rhode Island
The Rhode Island State House in Providence.
Plymouth, MA
Night photography in an Atlantic fog.
Hartford, CT, and Providence, RI.
Monday, 14th June
Plymouth, MA
Most of these are of the National Monument to the Forefathers.
Notice how many of the women on the Mayflower are described as
“and wife”.
Quincy, MA
Birthplace of Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams.
Pronounced KWIN-zee.
Friday, 18th June
Saturday, 19th June
Monday, 21st June
The blanket was supposed to keep the cats off the clean laundry
underneath. Who'd have thought Cupid would want to be under it
on such a hot day?
Thursday, 1st July
Saturday, 3rd July
We tried to go to the zoo but the road was jammed solid because of
an event at the baseball stadium next door. We aborted, had lunch and
went to the Durham Museum, in the old Union Station, instead.
Omaha, NE
Fontenelle Forest, Bellevue, NE
Sunday, 4th July
Rabbit
Wildlife on the lawn.
Fireworks
The city display was cancelled because of a bad weather forecast
and there wasn't much else on offer...
Light painting
... so we goofed around in the park with long exposures and LED
torches.
Monday, 5th July
Today's forecast was actually worse but turned out to be wrong.
Friday, 9th July
The first four were taken using an office chair and a blanket as a
mini-studio.
Sunday, 11th July
Monday, 12th July
Second attempt at the zoo. This time, we made it.

Driving
The plane is by the Interstate between Lincoln and Omaha. The
other three were taken on the way to dinner, which we had just across
the state line in Iowa.
Tuesday, 13th July
Wednesday, 14th July
Saturday, 17th July
The principal ingredient of apricot sorbet...
Tuesday, 20th July
Another evening in Omaha; another shot at that plane.
Sunday, 25th July
Goofing around with a cat and a wide-angle lens.
Tuesday, 27th July
Driving through Nebraska and Kansas
Topeka, KS
Driving past Kansas City
I-70 through Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri. Most
of the shots (all but one) are taken from the former but (just over
half) show the latter.
Driving to Jefferson City, MO
Jefferson City, MO
Driving to Springfield, MO
Wednesday, 28th July
Driving through Missouri and Arkansas
Natural bridge, near Clinton, AR
We stopped here on a whim, having seen ads by the road. Access is
via an incredibly steep road and, on the way back up, we discovered
that the Subaru's fuel economy display bottoms out at 1.5mpg. I
wouldn't be at all surprised if we were in gallons-per-mile
territory.
Little Rock, AR
Hot Springs National Park, AR
Lobstah's travels
Thursday, 29th July
Driving through Arkansas and Oklahoma
Oklahoma State Capitol, Oklahoma City, OK
Oklahoma City National Memorial, OK
In 1995, the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma
City was blown up by a truck bomb, with the loss of 168 lives. The
site is now a memorial garden. The Gates of Time display the time one
minute before and after the bombing. Each chair in the Field of
Chairs represents a victim of the bombing, arranged in rows according
to the floor of the building the person was on. The children who died
in the daycare centre have smaller chairs. The chairs correspond to
the empty chairs at family dining tables.
Sonic drive-through, Guthrie, OK
We arrived rather late at our hotel in Guthrie so we stopped for a
drive-through burger before checking in. While we were eating, a huge
locusty-grasshopper thing flew in through Kita's open window and
landed on our ice-cream. We were surprised. (And more concerned with
ejecting it than with producing a photographic record of its
exploits.)
Friday, 30th July
Driving through Oklahoma and Kansas
I should point out that the last one was taken through a telephoto
lens so we weren't quite so close to doom as it might appear.
Abilene, KS
Site of the Eisenhower Presidential Library. Also site of Kuntz's
drive-in. And, yes, we drove around the block an extra time to
get the photo.
Driving through Kansas and Nebraska
With a brief stop in Marysville, KS, so Lobstah could stretch her
claws.
Saturday, 31st July
The Haymarket district of Lincoln.
Monday, 2nd August
Tuesday, 3rd August
C and L Dairy Sweet, near Pioneer Park. Purveyors of fine lemon
ice-cream.
Wednesday, 4th August
The cats
The garden
Thursday, 5th August
Once more unto Omaha, though the photos are all from the journey
home.
Friday, 6th August
Sunday, 8th August
Two cats. One wide-angle lens.
Tuesday, 10th August
Thursday, 12th August
Off to Omaha again.
Saturday, 14th August
PJ's Baby Cakes, Lincoln, NE
Sunken Garden, Lincoln, NE
Haymarket, Lincoln, NE
The Haymarket is the area around the railway station and is full of
restaurants, bars and artsy shops. Not including Village Inn, which
isn't downtown.
Sunday, 15th August
The shadow of Kita's KitchenAid mixer. Looks like an alien, to
me.
Monday, 16th August
Nebraska State Capitol, Lincoln, NE
A tour of the State Capitol
Mosaics
Rotunda
The crossing point under the tower.
Memorial Chamber
Commemorating bravery in public service and also the ideals of
Nebraska and America.
