The shore of the east bay is flat for a mile or two before rising into the Berkeley Hills. In fact, much of it is land that was reclaimed from the bay. The main exception to this picture is Albany Hill, a 310-ft tall lump of sandstone that got left behind as the Pacific Plate moved under the Americas.
I also saw and photographed a burrowing owl but the photo isn't up to much as I only had my 50mm lens with me and the owl wasn't nearly close enough for that lens. I came back a week later with the right lens and got a much better photo of the owl in exactly the same place, though it's still not great shot as it sits with its back to the path, looking out into the bay.
