The “squirrel cage” jail was one of 18 revolving jails built in the US in the late 1800s and the only one with three floors. The cells were in a large rotating cylinder which the jailer could turn to line up one cell with the single entrance door on each floor. In the 1960s, the rotary mechanism was disabled and doors were cut through the cage for the ground floor cells and the ones on the first floor landing, which roughly halved the jail's capacity but allowed for such niceties as a fire escape.

Dorian Grey

Dorian Grey is a feral kitten who was trapped by the cat shelter and will be up for adoption once he's socialized. When I took these, he was something of a scaredy cat who would mostly stay in his little cubby hole, but would accept petting and play a bit if you took him out of there. He has the most amazing purr and will roll over for belly scritches, even if he won't come out. Now, he's much more outgoing and he'll be somebody's adorable pet.

Tall ships

This year's Tall Ships Race took place along the French and Spanish coasts and ended in Dublin. Immediately after, a much smaller race, the Irish Sea Tall Ships Regatta was run from Dublin to Liverpool. The field of eleven started to arrive today.
