1822 ==== The rules to 1822 are available on the Web: https://www.dropbox.com/s/z980fotafawd6z3/1822_rules_web.pdf?dl=1 so this is not a full set of rules, it's just a series of notes, rulings by the designer, etc. The map is at: https://5a788f57-a-62cb3a1a-s-sites.googlegroups.com/site/aagamesllc/home/simon-cutforth-s-1822-1822-the-railways-of-great-britain/1822-Map.png which may help understanding. Vexingly the numbering of rules in section 5 has changed between different printings of the rules... some of which printings have the same revision date on page 1. So if some of these seem to be off by one, that's why. 1.2.4 Merthyr Tydfil and Pontypool These sort-of-offmap hexes have given rise to a lot of confusion. Besides what's written in the rules: 1) There's only one piece of track between them. A company can't run two trains between these hexes, one in each direction. 2) Routes are constructed outwards from tokens. This means that Cardiff-Merthyr-Pontypool is a valid route for minors #19 and #21, but not for minor #20, even though all three of them have tokens somewhere on the route. If a major were to have a token in Cardiff, it could acquire minor #20 via Merthyr even though minor #20 can't get to Cardiff. 3.3.4 Minor Companies Beware. A minor started with too low a bid in Phase 2 will only have enough initial treasury to buy an L train, as will any minor started in Phase 1. If Phase 3 comes quickly (and the gap between Phases 1 and 3 can be very short, if no-one buys 2 trains) these Ls will immediately evaporate leaving the director paying most or all of the £200 for a 3 train out of their own pocket. 5.2.1 Operating Round Turn Order Private #9 M&GNR pays its income to its owner now, like other privates, even though it is described as "revenue". 5.8.3 Lay or Upgrade Track Unmarked yellow tiles are going to cover up preprinted S and T on the map. This is a nuisance, but less of a nuisance that one might like think because the layout of the map in those places means ordinary green upgrades won't fit at all. The other gotcha here is 5.8.16 - when playing brown or grey tiles, a 6-exit tile must always be used in preference to one with 5 exits, if possible. 5.13 Run Trains A Pullman cannot be attached to an E train. Pullmans can be moved between trains each OR, they aren't stuck to a particular train. The mail contract pays out using the base values of the start and end stations, not values doubled by E trains or destination tokens. As in most 18xxs the company must run the maximum value routes, but then there's an addendum allowing the director to omit small stations from the end of a route run by a Pullman train (and only a Pullman train) to maximise mail income. This could theoretically produce a situation where the director drops several small stations and both the revenue and the additional mail income are now less than they could be with another route, but as far as I can make out that's both unlikely and tough luck. The English Channel / France is a bit of a mess. It costs you one station from your run to go there, not two, but you only score France if you could run through the English Channel - if there's a free token space or you have a token there. An E train scores it if you have a token there. 5.18 Acquisitions In the unlikely case that a major is buying a minor that belongs to another player, the director of the minor gives consent without knowing how many shares in the major the compensation will include. 5.19 Acquisitions A major can acquire minor #14 The Metropolitan Railway from the bidding boxes. It would have to be able to trace a route to at least one station in London. If the major chooses to place the token, it would place it in such a station in London, and must pay £20 and use its entire track lay for the OR to do so, just as the Metropolitan would do on its first OR if it were started normally. Table 3 Private Companies A company with a share in Private #16 Offshore Tax Haven can be "sold out" at the end of an OR. This is a change to the rules as written.
