Vega Announces Discovery of Long Lost Colony, Deal to Build Teleport

Vega Trading Corporation today announced the re-discovery of the colony of Varon, cut off from galactic contact for over five hundred standard years. Vega made contact with Varon some months ago, and negotiations have been taking place between the Varon government and Vega's Business Relations Division since. Today Vega's chief negotiator Judith Husain announced that a deal had been struck whereby Vega builds and operates a teleport station on Varon in return for a monopoly on surface-orbit transport. Husain said: "We are delighted to make this deal with the Varons. It has great potential benefits for both sides. Analysis of Varon's geology reveals significal deposits of raw materials which are valuable on the galactic markets. The Varons are keen to exploit these in order to kick start their economy and gain access to modern technology, and we are well-placed to help them with this."

A detailed report on the Vega-Varon agreement, including Vega's analysis of Varon mineral wealth, was released by Vega this morning. Vega's share price rose substantially today.

Disasters on Varon- Sabotage to Blame? Vega Share Price Falls

An internal Vega report on the progress of the Varon Teleport Station project describes major setbacks which the company has not revealed to investors. The report was sent to the Chronicle anonymously yesterday and details a serious accident during the construction of a hydroelectric power plant to serve the teleport station. The report also analyses a growing trend of anti-Vega sentiment on Varon, caused in part by rumours that a current outbreak of disease on Varon is of Dzibanian origin.

The power plant accident was caused when a tunnel diverting the Yellop River collapsed, causing a flood to sweep away the construction site. The cause of the collapse is currently the subject of an investigation by the local Vega geologists and the Varon government. However, with an active anti-Vega politicial movement on Varon sabotage cannot be ruled out.
