Engineer Lindenhouse Software Ltd. is a small software house specialising in the provision of document management solutions to the Financial Services sector. I was involved with most of the company's technical requirements, both internally and with clients. My duties involved the design, implementation and administration of local systems, designing and planning client installations, the implementation of systems on client sites, 1st and 3rd line technical support. Some examples of the projects I had overall responsibility for are : 1. A client in Glasgow became a customer and at the time had no network infrastructure at all, just 4 standalone PC's. The task here involved the installation of structured cabling in an old building, and the provision and configuration of a network server, and the redesign of their internal IT usage. 2. A large client had 3 offices in various locations around East Anglia. The contract was to provide them with VPN connectivity between their offices, reworking their e-mail provision to merge the 3 current domains into a single company wide domain, and the implementation of INVU across the company's offices. Additionally I was also able to exercise my C++ development skills (Borland C++), producing utilities to solve client specific problems, and 1 application that is now a major part of the company's product range. Jul 2000 – Mar 2001 Zephon Networks Consultant Over the years I have installed a number of networks (from site survey to administrative set-up) using Novell Netware (3.12 and 4.1), Windows (2000, 98, 95, NT 4.0) and unix (sco, debian gnu/linux). As Zephon I have worked on a number of projects, such as: http://www.zephon.org/wiring/ which involved wiring a house to category 6 draft specification (350 Mhz) and adhering to the TIA/EIA 568A cabling installation specification. May 2000 - Jul 2000 Personnel People Temporary Office Manager I managed three types of role at this startup recruitment company. I started off doing administrative assistance (I know most standard office software packages and type at 41 wpm) however this evolved into a more general role, taking on duties in the recruitment and management side. I also functioned as systems administrator for the company, fixing problems, doing upgrades and providing training. Aug 1999 - Apr 2000 Microsoft Student In late 1999 I had to have a major abdominal operation (now fully recovered). I took the opportunity of this enforced rest to develop my Java, and take the MCSE Networking Essentials exam (score 900). Dec 1998 - Jul 1999 SMP (UK) Ltd. Support Engineer I was a member of a small team providing desktop and telephone support to a medical research company. I was responsible for approximately 300 PC's split between 3 sites, and for the network infrastructure installed on the premises. Additionally I was asked on many occasions to provide users with training in the use of MS Office products and some miscellaneous other software. Apr 1998 - May 1998 (Contract) Support Analyst The roll involved mainly operating a helpdesk, though I also had responsibility for desktop visits. The company used both Win95/Office 95 and Win3.11/Office 4.3 desktops. Packages used included MS Office (4.3 and 97), Lotus Smartsuite, Smartsuite 97, Wordperfect v6 Apr 1997 - Jan 1998 Computacenter Sears PLC Support Analyst My duties concerned the installation of new equipment and the provision of general hardware and software support to 150 users. The main site used Windows 3.1 and Lotus Smartsuite/CC:Mail running on a mix of IBM PS/2 and Compaq Deskpro machines; the other site was a mix of Windows 95 and 3.1 on the same hardware. I was also involved with Windows 95 rollout projects, involving both installation and troubleshooting. Oct 1996 - Mar 1997 Computacenter (Contract) Bass Brewers Installation Engineer / Support Analyst I was involved in the installation of new equipment as well as hardware and software break-fix support to users as part of a team of engineers. The site used Windows 3.11 and Microsoft Office/Microsoft Mail with IBM PS/2, 300 and 700 series and IBM laptops. The initial Contract was for 3 weeks but was extended over 5 months. Aug 1996 - Oct 1996 2nd line support on a contract basis During this period, I provided holiday cover to a number of companies. I was involved in 1st and 2nd line support including hardware (Compaq, IBM), Lotus Smartsuite and Microsoft Office. May 1995 - Aug 1996 Nova Maintenance Ltd. Site Service Engineer Working as the sole travelling engineer in a 3rd party maintenance company providing support for 100 users. In the past I have been heavily involved in the setting up and operation of computerised bulletin boards, both stand-alone and linked into mail-exchange networks. I am a competent HTML designer, and have worked on a number of popular sites. As a programmer I am experienced in both procedural and Object-oriented methodologies; the languages used include Java, C++, Visual Basic, and Borland Pascal v7.0. During my year out before University, I ran a small business importing and re-selling computer hardware from the USA, and writing bespoke database software using Sapphire DataEASE. I'm good at working under pressure, and am prepared to put in long hours and travel long distances to get a job done. (Some years I drive 50-80k miles.) I am a keen science fiction enthusiast, and enjoy reading, judo, sports cars, strategy games and travel (most recently America, Cyprus and Greece).
