+Small and with a face that has been compared to a friendly weasel, Raffaelo is not prepossessing but he is liked by many due to his incessant good cheer and witty banter. He tends to wear a brighter than normal wardrobe and a large smile.

+Background:

+Raffaelo does not know who his father is but his patron was the Archbishop of Bologna, Gerardo Ariosti who resigned in 1213. Gerardo arranged for the young man to study at the university and provided him with a small allowance. Unfortunately, Raffaelo appeared not as grateful as perhaps he should have been and was continually in trouble due to his drinking and gambling. After the resignation of his patron as Archbishop and perhaps due to having been caught in bed with the wrong woman, Raffello was cut adrift, coincidentally the last remittance arrived at the same time as the young man failed his exams to be named a Magister of the university for the second time. At this point, Raffaelo petitioned to take service as secretary and personal servant to the charismatic Byzantine Doctor Alexios whose intellect and brilliance he greatly admired. He was astounded to discover that the true secret was that Doctor Alexios was a wizard and both much older than he appeared and possessor of great powers. Raffaelo is fascinated by this and very sad that he has no magic himself. He stores away every scrap of lore he can and hopes to persuade his master someday to make him a book of spells.
