+Fergus's clan is on the edge of the Highland region, near the Fife
+area.
+
+The previous clan leader was Fergus' elder brother, however he died
+young, whilst Fergus was at Oxford (1217); leaving the clan council a difficult choice between Fergus and
+his infant nephew (b. 1213).  The council was divided very closely but
+in the end the nephew faction prevailed; although with the proviso
+that Fergus would be the next heir at least until either of them
+produced offspring.  Needless to say the regency council for the new
+chief is full of his supporters...
+
+Fergus doesn't really want to be clan chief, but sme of the council
+feel that he forms a crystalization point for disagreements, so they
+encourage him to spend as much time as is politically possible away
+from the clan.  For himself he is studying with a goal of finding ways
+to adapt his clan to the modern world without becoming surrogate
+Englishmen like the Lowland clans have (as he sees it).

+He is the only current living member of the clan who can shapeshift
+(possibly as a result of a faerie curse many generations back);
+although his Uncle was also a shifter and taught him much of what he
+knows.  The problems with silver are linked to that ability to
+shapeshift.

+He doesn't fight from horseback (hard
+with a two-handed sword); but rides a placid mare called Seodag.
