Actual background is a fairly comfortable existence growing up at Hexham Priory as a child of the chamberlain (a lay position); implanted memories are as the son of a knight of mixed but mostly Saxon heritage who was murdered by the Abbot of Hexham's men to steal his remaining land. He was then stolen by the Tytalus of Horsingas and served them for a year before being rescued by Johannes in the raid on Horsingas
