Entirely unnecessary.
They presumably qualified as students under the old rules. As long as
they do nothing to disqualify themselves they should be able to remain
as long as permission was granted for. If the UK government asserts
that they have done something to disqualify themselves under the old
rules then it needs to provide evidence so that its assertions may be
judged.
All that is happening at the moment is that the police, Home Office,
Security Service (and no doubt other secretive organisations) are
trying to cover up their embarassment and curry favour with the Daily
Wail. I have no evidence for that belief, but I will continue to hold
it unless evidence is provided to the contrary.
